How to Creatively Display Kids’ Art
Few things are more important than displaying the creative works of a budding Picasso or a young Rembrandt. As parents and teachers know, kids are wonderfully creative, and they love to see their artwork on display. It’s important to properly recognize the achievements of young artists, whether it’s a toddler’s first crayon scribble or a high school student’s prize-winning photo. Consider all the angles when it comes to displaying your kids’ artwork at home.
When looking for a place to hang children’s art, most people immediately think of their refrigerator door. Hanging art on a refrigerator door does have some benefits. The location is widely used, so the art can be frequently seen and admired, and the display method is fast and simple. Although this location and method is widely popular, it does come with its share of problems. The display space is often very limited, making the area prone to overcrowding. This is especially true if you have multiple kids’ art pieces to display or multiple artists in your home. Secondly, the artwork is more prone to damage from spills, rips and tears. Displaying art work so close to food items is generally not a good idea—for the art or the food. Also, many refrigerators are now stainless which doesn’t work with magnets.
Instead of using the refrigerator door, look for another larger area that can be used as a kids’ art display showcase. Do you have a large area of unused wall space in the laundry room? Other ideal locations might be a back hallway or even a child’s bedroom. Consider using a wall frame or a custom border to mark off a specific area. Having a dedicated area will serve as an art gallery of sorts. It will provide ample room to showcase the creative abilities of your child. More importantly, it will protect the pieces from damage and enable you to showcase their creativity.
Look for a display method that will allow you to easily attach, remove and replace the art work as your child grows. Find frames that are easily installed and that can accommodate various sizes and odd-shaped art. Find frames that fit to your size and space requirements. Ideally, you want something that you can hang one time and can change out the artwork inside as needed. If your kids’ art display is too complicated, you may abandon it altogether. There are many unique products on the market which enable you to easily hang and showcase your child’s art. Look for something that is simple and attractive, yet can be used for years to come.
Why not organize your kids’ art display by the artist, style or season it represents? Every budding artist deserves his own space to showcase his talents. Consider making a separate display area for each artist or for each style of art. Examples might include creating an area for older or younger kids, displaying creative works by grade level, or displaying the art by the type of media used, such as watercolor, charcoal or photography.
Take some time to consider how you can best preserve, protect and display the creative art works of your children. Providing a nice kids’ art display will give them confidence and preserve many memories for years to come.
