Xavier Thoma Enjoys The Sport Of Skiing

Skiing is an activity that is done in snow covered areas using skis. Skis are special type of equipment that is used by the skiers to travel over snow. Special boots are connected to the skis that are worn while skiing. Basically, skiing is divided into two categories namely Nordic skiing and Alpine skiing. The former was developed in Scandinavia and it involves free-heel binding that simply attach to the toes of the skier. On the other hand, the latter originated in European Alps and it involves free-heel binding that is attached to the toes as well as the heels of the skier’s boots.

Skiing is a very popular sport and its types are very famous. A number of skiing events are organized from time to time in colder regions that remain snowfed. Most of the competitive events that are organized are recognized by International Olympic Committee and International Ski Federation in collaboration with a few other supporting organizations. Skiing techniques are difficult to learn and therefore there are a number of skiing training schools set up to teach the same. For those who are beginners, the speed of skiing is slow, the terrain is usually not too steep and therefore less risk is involved. For expert skiers, the speed is high and the terrain is extremely challenging thereby testing his skiing abilities. Alpine skiing is basically downhill skiing that is performed on well defined ski runs. Freestyle skiing is an interesting combination of acrobatics and aerial balance. Nordic skiing which is also known as ski-flying involves the skiers sliding down a ramp first before making an air jump. Military skiing is a part of military training in order to train the troops for training for the warfare. Apart from these, there are are several other forms of skiing such as kite skiing, water skiing, paraskiing, dry slope skiing, adaptive skiing and a lot more.

There are a number of risks involved in this sport, the most common being the knee injury. Xavier Thoma has skied since he was a child. He learned to ski in the United States but has travelled across the globe to different mountain ranges, including the Alps, the Rocky Mountains, and the Pacific and Appalachian mountains. He is a capable piste skier but prefers off-piste terrain and powder, ideally on crisp sunny day.
