How to Tell the Difference in the Types of Car Light Bulbs?
An automobile uses several different types of car light bulbs. There are basically four main types consisting of: fog lights, headlights, decorative lighting and mini bulbs. Each of these four types of car light bulbs has their own characteristics such as size, brightness and color. These characteristics vary according to what the designed purpose is for the bulb.
The Headlight
The headlight on each type of automobile varies slightly. Depending on the type of vehicle they may be a bulb style or a sealed beam type. The sealed bean headlight will require that you buy a complete new headlight to replace it if it goes out. This is the entire unit including the bulb, glass and also the metal casing. The bulb types only require that you take the old bulb out only and then replace the bulb with a brand new one.
The bulbs for headlights are classified by six characteristics. Standard head lights are the most common kind of car light bulbs for headlights. There are two types of blue ones cool blue and blue vision and these produce a light that is whiter than the standard types. The xeon bulb is decigned to produce a light that is 30 percent brighter than the standard versions; and the xenon ultra can produce a light that is 50 percent brighter than standard models. Two types of car light bulbs for the headlight that are designed to have 50 percent longer livability than the standard models are the argon and krypton. These are generally used for commercial vehicles which make use of higher volts.
The Fog Lights
The two types of fog lights use halogen bulbs. Trucks usually have a fog light on the top of the cab and cars generally have them on the bottom of the front of the vehicle. These car light bulbs are useful when driving in the fog because they do not reflect light off the fog. This keeps from straining the driver’s eyes with a glare.
The Mini Bulbs
These types of car light bulbs are a lot shorter than others and they are not used as much as some of the other kinds. They are not usually replaced as often as other varieties either. They are usually used in turn signals, running lights or corner lights. Most of the time, they are also used in stoplights and taillights. The little lamps that come on when you open the door are minis as are the dash lights in the dashboard of the vehicle.
The Specialty Bulb
There are several varieties of specialty or decorative bulbs. LED and neon lights are used on the side mirrors for extra blinkers. They are also used at the rear of a vehicle for brake lights or stop indicators. Undercarriage lights are used sometimes to make a colored light come from underneath the vehicle. And even strobe lights can be used on the side mirrors for blinkers.
There are a lot of different kinds of car light bulbs that are used throughout the vehicle. They serve a wide variety of purposes. The size, shape, color and brightness are the best way to tell the difference in them.
