How to Reset Windows 7 password in Safe Mode

1. Start or restart your computer.
2. Press F8 to enter Advanced Boot Options before the Windows 7 splash screen appears.
3. Use arrows keys to choose Safe Mode with Command Prompt and press Enter.
4. Please wait while loading Windows files.
5. Log on with the built-in Administrator account when the logon screen appears.
6. A command prompt will appear after logged on. Type net user on it and press Enter. All the user accounts will be displayed.
7. Type the following command line and press Enter to unlock Windows 7 password.
Net user username password
Enable Windows 7 Administrator Account
But unlike Windows XP, the built-in Administrator account in Windows 7 is disabled or hidden by default. You need to enable the hidden Administrator account firstly if you want to reset Windows 7 password through it.
Enable Windows 7 administrator account as follows:
1. Type lusrmgr.msc in the Start search box and hit Enter to pop up the Local Users and Groups Window.
2. Expand Users folder to display all the user accounts in the Windows 7 machine
3. Right-click the Administrator and select Properties.
4. Uncheck the box in front of “Account is disabled” and click OK to finish.
Now Win 7 admin account is enabled. If you want to set a password for it, please go on as follows:
1. Right-click the Administrator and select Set Password.
2. Click Proceed to go on your operation.
3. Type and confirm your new Win 7 admin password and click Ok.
