Identifying A Hotel With High Standards
If you’re anything like me, you may deal with your travel plans online. The Internet makes it very easy for all of us to book flights, accommodation, car hire, travel insurance and other travel extras. There’s no longer any need to visit a traditional travel agent.
We may choose to make bookings in this way because we think that it will be cheaper, or allow us greater access to flexible arrangements. But it’s also true that there are some additional advantages to carrying out research online.
I think this is particularly clear when considering the issue of identifying a suitable hotel. Travel brochures were once our main source for information on hotels and other types of accommodation. In reality, we were often restricted to reading a few short paragraphs of text. They were usually accompanied by a photograph or two, but information was limited.
In essence, we were relying on the travel agent to provide us with information. Since they often had little extra to add, booking a hotel really required a considerable amount of luck. It’s clear that times have certainly changed.
It’s now possible to learn a lot more from the comfort of your own home. You might start at the official hotel website. Remember that this is likely to show the potential accommodation in a very positive light. After all, one of the main reasons for the presence of the website will be to encourage people to go ahead and make bookings. But it’s still a useful exercise, allowing you to check out the facilities and amenities that are on offer.
You may well have a list of features that you’re looking for. If you’re planning a family holiday, for example, then you may be looking for a hotel with a swimming pool, child-friendly meals and activities to keep the kids occupied. You’ll soon be able to see whether the accommodation is aimed at families. If it’s not, it may be time to move on and look at alternatives.
The problem with looking at photographs and reading pages of promotional text is that they don’t really give you the full picture. They may tell you all about the great facilities that are on offer, but they clearly avoid mentioning any issues. This is where independent reviews can be so useful.
With past customers able to post their thoughts online, there’s no reason why you can’t learn a lot more about what a hotel’s really like. You can find out if everything is as good as has been advertised. Are there any hidden problems that you didn’t know about?
One final piece of advice is always to look at the location of a hotel on a map too. It’s incredibly useful to know, for instance, how far away you will be from the beach, or the shops in the centre of the resort.
The Internet gives you access to a wide range of information. Make use of it wisely to ensure that you select somewhere to stay that will provide you with everything that you need.
