Doxycycline is also active against malaria parasite, Plasmodium vivax and Plasmodium falciparum
Doxycycline some cases may have activity against the following bacteria, but it shouldn’t be prescribed until they have been shown to be susceptible:- Haemophilus influenzae- Streptococcus pneumoniae- other Streptococcus species. Doxycycline may be used in the treatment of:Streptococcal throat infections to prevent rheumatic fever,chronic bacterial prostatitis, chronic bronchitis exacerbation, acute bacterial sinusitis-, is also used in conjunction with chloroquine for the prevention of malaria caused by Plasmodium bacteria. Doxycycline is famous in acne treatment and may be useful in the treatment of intestinal amoebiasis.
