Moonchairs – An Admission or simply a Strange Attraction?
I am a “mooner”. yes, that is correct, a mooner. Before you begin conjuring up ideas of a drug crazed hippy freak, allow me to explain. While I harbor a compulsion of sorts, my preferences are completely above board. And, I’m here presently to come clean to you and the world. yep. I am a mooner.
I love moon chairs. I always have. It all started when my favorite Aunt Abby bought me my first kids moon chair. It was a fabulous furry moon chair (fuzz was greatly favored in the 1970’s ) and it was sooooo plush. It was a navy blue moon chair. Back in the day, there were two colors to select from, really. moon chairs for girls were pink. Moon chairs for boys were blue. How traditional, right? Anyway, I completely enjoyed the moon chair. I would sleep and eat and watch television in it on our vintage black and white TV. I even had my first kiss in that old Papasan moon chair.
Anyways, time wore on and that old moon chair just got old. By the time I departed for college, it was time to toss that special spherechair into the garbage and purchase a new one. Now, some peeps have difficulty saying good bye to their pets when they passon. Well, let me tell you, I just burst out crying when the garbage men unceremoniously lofted my old reliable moon chair into the back of the garbage truck. It simply seemed like an Irish wake was the only way to complete a proper send off. So, I stole some Jack Daniels from my parent’s liquor closet, climbed the hill in front of my home and got drunk.
So, I was shopping for my college dorm room when I came across a black moonchair. I did not see it initially, but the moon chair had an Oakland Raider’s emblem on the front. Now, growing up in the seventies meant that, as a boy, I was a Raiders fanatic. Stabler, Belitnkoff, Branch, Casper, Hubbard.. What an unit. That’s the same team Upshaw and Shell played with. Anyway, I simply had to buy this black moonchair with logo and everything! This was not just a kids moonchair. It was a party-machine moonchair! It sure did survive an a crazy number of parties. People would play competitive drinking games just to see who would sit in the throne moonchair known as “old blacky” – our so respectful name for the black moon chair.
Later in life, I bought a home. I always wanted a “cool” rec room. So, the first thing I did to embellish the domiclie was. yes, ya guessed it. I bought two childrens moon chairs for my kids and two adult moon chairs for my spouse and me. The childrens childrens are hot pink and royal blue. The moonchairs for adults are a navy blue. It is a perfect recreation room, complete with mood lighting, pool table, juke box and four Papasan moon chairs!
I can’t wait to have grandchildren. yes, it is still a long way off, but I am anticipating introducing my grandchildren to moon chairs. There are so many wonderful childrens moonchairs on the market today. Children’s moonchairs have images of favorite cartoon heros sewn into the cushion. You can purchase Disney moon chairs, Cars moon chairs, Dora the Explorer, Diego moonchairs and many more! The grand kids are going to adore me!
