Espresso and Cappuccino At Home from the DeLonghi Magnifica Automatic Coffee Machine
There is huge interest in the DeLonghi Magnifica automatic espresso machine at present. The reviews of those who have actually bought one of these machines immediately make it obvious that it performs exceptionally well.
A bean-to-cup espresso maker is as close as you can get to a fully automatic espresso machine and the manual is pretty plain and easy to follow.
You fill the tank with water, the coffee holder with beans and you are all set to go. Once the maker is turned on, the beans are measured out, ground to espresso grade and tamped down into the infuser .
Water heated to the right temperature is then forced at 15 bar pressure through the coffee plug, and into the pre-warmed cups.
A milk frother means that you can turn the espresso into latte or cappuccino by adding froth if that’s what you choose.
All very good, and when set up properly the DeLonghi Magnifica performs extremely well. You have plenty of adjustments to make:-
- The coarseness of the grinding – it must be fine enough but not too fine or the water will not get through the grounds.
- The amount of coffee and volume of water per brew
- The number of cups per brew
- The steam temperature and pressure for frothing
- The right balance between these controls is important – otherwise you won’t get the strength of coffee you like. A level of trial and error is required if you are going to arrive at the settings that suit your individual taste.
The machine has a number of other valuable functions:-
- The used grounds are automatically cleared into a compartment for removal. An alarm tells you when it needs to be emptied.
- There is a programme of self-rinsing that the machine goes through, keeping itself clean during the day
- The machine will take ready ground beans if that suits you. Useful for decaf drinkers
- Another alarm tells you when the maker needs to be descaled.
On the whole the DeLonghi Magnifica is a top-performing espresso machine. Just take a bit of time to find out how to use it correctly and it won’t disappoint.
Reports are that lots of of these machines are now being bought for the workplace, as more and more people enjoy the experience of real espresso. What better way for someone running a small office to show that they care about the welfare of those working there? And it’s got to look better than an old kettle and pot of instant!
