Unemployment (unemployment) recorded in the euro area, seasonally adjusted, remained stable in the month of January 2005 at 8.8%, as published by the Statistical Office of the European Communities (Eurostat). The unemployment rate in the European Union of 25 members (EU25) is, likewise, 8.8% of the workforce and has dropped a tenth in the last month.
The lowest rates in January are located in Ireland (4.3%), Luxembourg (4.4%), Austria (4.5%), United Kingdom (4.6% in November 2004) and Holland ( 4.7% in December). Unemployment rates are highest in Poland (18.2%), Slovakia (16.5%), Greece (10.5% in June), Spain (10.3%) and France (9.7%).In the particular case of the Spanish economy, after growing for four consecutive years has been a slowdown since 2001 related to spanish jobs. This has led to a growth rate lower than expected. Yet we see that the number of members of Social Security has increased in recent years but still has an unemployment rate and highest unemployment in the European Union 10% which tends to decrease rapidly as this country remains among the major employment generators in the Euro Area.
European women still have an unemployment rate higher than the male according to data from January. In the Euro Area are affected 10.4% of working women (10% for the EU25), the same percentage as in the previous month and two tenths less than a year ago. The unemployment rate for men stood at 7.5% (for the EU25 is 7.9%), increasing from December tenth and unchanged from the same month last year. The difference between rates of male and female unemployment varies between countries. In Greece this difference is the extent to which has more than 9.6 points (16.2% for women and 6.6% for men, data from June 2004) and is 6.8% points in the case of Spain (14.3% unemployment rate in women compared to 7.5% of men). At the opposite extreme are countries like Ireland, United Kingdom, Estonia and Germany, where female unemployment rates are lower than men, as, also in Japan and the United States. In the meantime it is recommended despite this, have better references, such as consulting official data and advice with a person residing in Spain on the local situation in each area. Sometimes each zone has its own characteristics, is not the same job search in Barcelona than in Madrid or Zaragoza, you must be very clear about the situation of each city and region.
