Don’t worry, the Duchess of Cambridge is bringing back nude stockings. And no, it’s no longer a fashion faux-pas to wear hosiery with open-toe shoes.
Don’t wear a dress that’s out of date, no matter how much you think it flatters you. The LBD you loved a while back is now too short, or the shoulder pads look enormous. Yes, we know the shoulder pads make your hips look smaller, but they are still the shoulder pads of Christmas past.
During summer, some offices go casual or declare Friday the day to dress down. But participate with caution. Rosa Fernandez, an advertising account executive, admits to a misstep in the past. On one of her first jobs, she wore sandals and a white cotton shirt on a hot summer day. Her boss pulled her aside. “She said my shirt was see-through and that I looked like I was still in college.”
Do dress like you are going to a party. A white pants suit is impractical for every day, but it sure can make a great entrance. Just don’t drink red wine. Or go for a glittery black sequin skirt paired with a white satin shirt.
Don’t forget the extra little things that can put you in a party mood, like having a mani-pedi or a herve leger pink bandage dress professional blow dry. It’s a holiday, after all.
