Cardiac Emergencies, Are You Prepared?
Nurses and doctors are required to understand how to care for a cardiac emergency, but why don’t you consider you? We have two friends’ stories I must give you briefly. Both of these two gals are medical professionals with different outcomes. How would you want your friend or cherished one to wind up?
Many years back I had an excellent colleague who had previously been an urgent situation room nurse. She’d soon turn 40 and was really enthusiastic about it. She’d a known problem of commencing a silly heart rhythm, but felt it turned out being maintained with medications. One evening she felt a strange sensation in her own chest, called in the market to her husband for help and dropped on the floor. Her husband has not been trained in CPR and didn’t call 911 quickly enough. No AED or CPR for a few minutes; time without oxygen to her brain. Against all odds, she survived and is talking and living today. She lives, however, with a brain injury in the lasting care facility never to practice nursing again.
Annually or two later I had a pal who was simply in their a year ago of med school. Her and her husband would soon be doctors and needs to work alongside in an internal medicine practice. One sunny day she decided to go for a run prior to starting her shift. She fired up her I-pod and started running. While out she collapsed at work. A female watching out your window called 911 and ran to her side. Knowing CPR she quickly started the steps of breaths and rescue breathing to the young doctor. Minutes later police officers arrived with an AED in his trunk. Together both the set up the AED and shocked the young doctor. In the event the ambulance arrived they set up the physician on the heart monitor to discover she wasn’t any longer inside a lethal heart rhythm plus they could target getting her to the hospital for more treatment. Today both the doctors work alongside and use their 6 month old son inside their sparetime.
Learning CPR and making sure your organization, church, school or emergency vehicles have a functioning AED are critical for a fantastic outcome. Neither of those two gals were much older than 40. Both of them were well educated to care for other bands emergencies, only you the emergent care that she needed. I encourage you to speak to your local American Red Cross or American Heart Association to identify a class in your area and help to make sure your neighborhood is well furnished with an AED.
