Will we ever stop using A4 paper in our paperless future?

Any time we think of office paper, we’re reminded of an acquaintance we knew ten years ago. He worked for a company that were undertaking a massive records digitisation program. Their motto was “Paper free by two thousand and three”. Our friend and his co-workers adopted the counter-slogan “And out the door by two thousand and four”.

Alas, the company never did meet their paperless-transfer goals by 2003, but our friend did manage to be unceremoniously give out the door by the time 2004 came to an end.

Although strides have been made in reducing paper consumption, a paperless future is currently hard to imagine. There’s something familiar, permanent and tactile about paper, something that causes offices everywhere – from small, one-person businesses to large government departments – to resist letting go of their beloved A4 paper.

Fortunately, Office1 stock a broad assortment of office papers at unbeatable prices. We carry both A4 and A3 sizes, and in weights ranging from 80gsm, ideal for multifunction use, to 120gsm for unparalleled definition and durability.

Photocopiers and laser printers operate by using heat and pressure to fuse toner to the paper. These machines require a paper specifically designed for this process, a paper that has a smooth and uniform surface and one that is heat stable. To ensure that toner fuses properly without curling the paper, always use paper that is optimised for laser printing, like our 5 Star copier paper, which is laser guaranteed. And be sure to also check out our Evolve Premium Recycled paper, which has 100 percent recycled content.

Although the difference is undetectable without a microscope, inkjet paper is not as smooth as laser and copy paper. Since inkjet printers spray infinitesimal bits of ink on the page in precise amounts, a slightly textured paper is needed to accept and absorb the ink and to allow it to dry quickly. Without this necessary texture, the ink may smear or produce a dull image. We have a wide array of inkjet paper to choose from, including Epson Bright White inkjet paper, perfect for everyday use, and Hewlett Packard photo paper for a variety of photo-printing needs.
