The History of Gas Fires and Early Use
Gas fires have been used for many years for different purposes and needs for commercial as well as domestic use. Gas fires are the most widely used ways of burning fire. It has been used in the UK as well as other parts of the world for years and is still widely popular in the UK.
The main characteristics that made gas fires exceptional were its safety feature for health and hygiene and its great working ability. Gas fires were considered safe for use that is why it has been used for many years. Their usage began around the twentieth century. It was used abundantly, as it was the best alternative source of energy with comparison to coal and wood, which on the other hand produced a lot of dust and dirt. Gas fires required fewer efforts to operate and were clean and healthy to use.
Gas fires were half the work relative to wood and coal because it did not take a long time for the gas fire to be lighted and start its working. Due to the readiness of gas fires to be lighted at the touch of a match, they were preferred by people, even if the use was still limited in the beginning of the 1900s.
While gas fires could be a little more costly than coal and wood, they were clean and efficient as well as convenient. During the 1920s, the usage of gas fires increased further and many new companies opened up that sold gas fires and due to the competition, the prices became relatively lesser.
After almost a decade, new possibilities emerged as the medical aspects of the gas fires were explored by researchers, and the doctors started recommendation of gas fire usages in the homes due to its clean and healthy nature and source of energy. In addition, it was making the homes warm and safe at a cheaper price. It was discovered that the gas fire actually ventilated and circulated in the room during its heating process. This was possible as the energy that was being used was taken up through the chimney and allowed fresh air to come in.
As the gas fire usage increased vastly in its early use, the ventilation process was required during the heating of a place. The added advantage of the gas fires prevented any cleaning up, smell or any smoke in the place.
With the passage of time, many developments were made to the gas fires and there were various designs and colours available for the users to choose from according to their taste and preferences. With the modernisation of gas fires, not only the designs improved, but there were also many other aspects.
As for the new designs, the gas fires were further developed to enhance its working capacity to make it more effective. The price tags were slashed down making it an essential priority for everyone. Therefore, with the passage of time, the gas fires have found their way through time and have become what they are known for.
