Contraception – Is It Safe?

Contraception till date has remained a topic of controversy when it comes to its effectiveness. Many people have their doubts whether a contraception is a safe method or will it really be effective. Until recently condoms were the only contraceptive used by couples. In today’s society contraception has reached to an altogether different level and has helped women better in preventing unplanned pregnancy. The most effective form of daily contraception is the hormonal contraceptive methods. There are three hormonal contraceptive methods, oral contraceptive pills, contraceptive patch and contraceptive ring.

Oral contraceptive pill is more popular as most women find it much easier to swallow a pill. This method is safer to use as it ensures almost 99% to 100% effectiveness. Although, like other pills, these pills can cause side effects, not all women can experience them. The pills consist, synthetic female hormones, with the help of which they help in preventing women from getting pregnant. These pills can then be further differentiated as a combination pill or a mini-pill, based on the hormones present. A combination pill consists, two synthetic female hormones, oestrogen and progestogen, as its active ingredients. These pills can prevent pregnancy in women in three different ways.

Yasmin pill is one of the most popular and commonly used contraceptive pills by women across the world. This pill has been proven to be almost 100% effective in preventing pregnancy in women. It consists, ethinylestradiol, artificial oestrogen, and drospirenone, artificial progestogen, as its active ingredients. With the help of these two ingredients, Yasmin prevents pregnancy in three different ways. Firstly, it prevents ovulation from occurring by tricking your body into believing that ovulation has already occurred. Secondly, it prevents fertilisation of an egg by preventing entry of a sperm as it thickens the cervical mucus. And lastly, Yasmin pill alters the womb lining and prevents growth of an egg.

Ovranette pill is also one of the most popular and effective combination pills used by women. This pill consists of ethinylestradiol, synthetic oestrogen, and levonorgestrel, synthetic progestogen, as its active ingredients. This pill has been proven to be almost 100% effective in preventing pregnancy. Just like other combination contraceptive pills, Ovranette also prevents pregnancy in three different ways. It is a monophasic pill, which means that you take the same dosage of oestrogen and progestogen throughout. You are required to take this pill for 21 days of your 28 day menstrual cycle. You are then to take a break of seven days before starting a new pack.

Another, one of the most commonly used combination contraceptive pill is Loestrin. This pill is available in two different dosage strengths of 20mg and 30mg. It is commonly referred to as Loestrin 20 or Loestrin 30. The Loestrin pill consists, ethinylestradiol, synthetic oestrogen and Norethisterone, synthetic progestogen, as its active ingredients. This pill has been proven to be almost 100% effective in preventing unplanned pregnancy in women. Both Loestrin pills, Loestrin 20 and Loestrin 30 are equally effective, the only difference being in the dosage strengths of its active ingredients.
