Editing Action Shots
If you’re an adrenaline junky and enjoy extreme sports or motorsports of any kind then you are sure to have some very cinematic and action packed moments. Whether you are hanging from one arm at the top of a huge trad lead (rock climbing) or getting air on a wakeboard, you will have moments where you look and feel like James Bond or Ethan Hawk. It’s understandable then that so many of us want to capture these moments and have some great shots that we can keep.
Using a GoPro HD camera is a great way to do this. If you want to capture shots of you wakeboarding for instance, it’s not to hard to get a GoPro HD Surf Hero and attach this to the wakeboard, to a helmet or to the tow boat. Similarly why not get a GoPro HD Motorsports Hero and attach that to your dash board, or facing in at you. With GoPro HD cameras you have cameras that capture footage in high definition that are incredibly light and versatile and come with a range of useful mounts, and that you can put through the ringer and not worry about breaking.
However at the same time a GoPro HD Hero or GoPro HD Motorsports Hero is not the only thing you can benefit from if you want to capture really great stills. At the same time you will also want to employ a good editing suite and using this you can make your photographs look like they belong on the cover of a magazine or like they were lifted straight out of an action film.
To edit truly great pictures from your GoPro HD Hero you will want to use a piece of photo editing software such as paint shop or a free alternative such as Gimp. These come with a range of special effects that you can employ and the whole gamut of options and tools.
For instance if you have some blur on your image then you can eradicate this by sharpening the image easily. Similarly if you want to add blur – such as a motion blur for instance – then you can do so easily by selecting the area you want to apply the effect to and then selecting filters –> motion blur. You can alter the amount of blur you use to create the effect of your hurtling along at incredible speeds or to tone it down, and this will really convey the action and drama.
Likewise if you want to alter the colors you can do this with the color replace tool, or with the color variations option. This way you can then have your image pop with vibrant color, or you can add a different hue to it – perhaps bringing out a sunset. You can play with brightness and contrast as well and that way you can increase the definition and make anything that’s hard to see more visible. There are many more effects you can use, so get a GoPro HD camera, capture some images, and then have a play to see what’s achievable.
