Landscape architecture on a commercial level

When one thinks about what we mean by the term landscape gardening, one almost never thinks of the business implications that term can entail. It is all too tempting to envisage an old manor house with some Victorian superstar tending to the exact gradient of hills and the direction the pansies face so the lord and lady have a more pleasant walk in the evenings. For most people, it seems that landscape gardening is somehow quaint; a thing of the past that has no place in modern Britain.

This is quite simply not true. Landscape gardening is alive and well, and can be considered just as important as it has ever been; especially when you think about landscape architecture on a commercial level. In the picture of Victoriana our mind might paint, there are no gardens outside the factories; industrial Britain a couple of centuries ago was dark and dull. But when our mind skips back to the future, and the companies that control Britain today, we might see beautiful shining towers with foyers well stocked with plants and maybe a water feature or two.

Outside of London and the major cities where space is scarce, however, a peaceful setting can be more sought after still. People are more willing to consider the benefits of a oxygen exuding garden has on their workforce, rather than a bigger car park that the company probably could not even fill. That is not to say the boss is going to let his or her employees work on the grass when the weather is nice, or that the workers are going to play football in their lunch breaks. In fact, the work force does not even have to spend a great deal of time in the grounds of the office to feel its benefits. Research shows that productivity is greatly increased simply by virtue of having a nice setting for the company building, and the opportunity to de-stress a little at lunch is one that is regularly seized upon by a large number of employees.

There are not only individual landscape architects, but large companies, that are offering landscape gardening services to people and businesses. Corporate gardening is a growing market, despite the recession, and as a consequence there is competition between those offering this service. It is important to bear landscape gardening in mind when you think about your business premises, as it is just as important as any other strain of facilities management, and can reap huge rewards if you have the space for it.

Landscaping architecture is another important part of facilities management, and well-equipped facilities management companies will take every inch of your premises into consideration when they are increasing efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
