There’s no need to attack an ATM with a prepaid card
A clip of a lady bashing an ATM with her shoe has become quite a hit. She’s since been given a conditional discharge and has paid for the damages she caused, but no-one knows why she did it, and no-one can condone her actions. But with everything from high bank bonuses to expensive bank fees upsetting many UK customers, some can sympathise. After all, Susan McPhee, Head of Policy at Citizens Advice Scotland recently said, “In general, bank fees are too high, their account information is still not presented clearly enough, and their charges disproportionately affect those who are least able to afford them”.
Fortunately, there is now a better alternative to a bank account: the prepaid Gold Mastercard. Anyone that’s 18 or over and lives in the UK is guaranteed to get one, and it is packed with valuable features. Just like a bank account, it offers free Standing Orders and Direct Debits, employers can pay wages into it and the card can be used to withdraw cash at any ATM worldwide that displays the MasterCard logo. And of course, the prepaid card can be used to pay online, over the phone or in shops and restaurants.
But what really makes it stand out from the banks are the added features. For example, if a Direct Debit looks set to bounce, the customer gets a warning, giving time to top up the account. The customer could also benefit from Debit ProtectTM, which is an instant loan designed to make sure that the payment goes through on time. And if the Direct Debit just can’t be paid, there is no penalty to pay.
Account fees for prepaid cards are also straightforward. To start with, customers can easily choose the price plan that suits them, from pay-as-you go to pay monthly or annually. And there are no hidden fees that can take the customer by surprise.
What’s more, some prepaid cards offer free purchase protection, handy in an uncertain world where even big brands can suddenly go under before delivering what’s been paid for, and where legitimate looking websites can actually be sophisticated fraud traps.
So anyone that’s so upset with their bank should seriously consider getting a prepaid card instead!
