The Galaxy Tab 10.1 finally coming to Australian retailers

Australian consumers will finally have the chance to get their hands on the Galaxy Tab 10.1. The device was first released internationally in early June as an update to the 7 inch Galaxy Tab from 2010. However, the newly updated 10.1 inch touchscreen device has been at the centre of a number of heated patent lawsuits that led to the device being banned from Australian shelves before its originally scheduled launch in August.

According to media reports, tablet rival Apple sought an injunction to be put on the sale of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in a number of regions, including Australia, for infringing on a number of Apple patents such as the way the device transmits data and connects wirelessly. Critics have also cited the obvious similarities in the physical appearance of the two devices.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 N

The ban on the sales of Galaxy Tab 10.1 devices was lifted from Australia in mid-December after Apple lost a final appeal to keep the injunction in place. The devices went back on sale on 12 December, just in time for the busy holiday season.

Meanwhile, in overseas markets, Samsung is fighting its other international injunctions. In Germany, it has released its updated Galaxy Tab 10.1N which features an embellished bevel edge in an attempt to distinguish the design from its Apple counterpart.
