EU will set HGV carbon standards by 2013

By 2013, the European Union will have an action plan in place which will set out to reduce carbon emissions from heavy goods vehicles, reports leading HGV training provider HGV Express (http://www.hgvexpress.co.uk/). The details of this emissions reduction scheme are still not confirmed but given that the Road Haulage Association (RHA) believes the scheme has been designed because “road haulage is likely to remain the biggest freight sector for the foreseeable future”, it’s not just good news for the environment but good news for anyone thinking of entering into the HGV driving industry.

Meeting EU standards can be tough for any industry and the EU have particular sights on reducing CO2 emissions which is likely to affect all sectors. By 2013 there will be a spotlight on the HGV industry, however, because, according to European Climate Change Commissioner Connie Hedegaard,  CO2 emissions from trucks and buses are likely to rise, even with technological advances bringing greater HGV fuel efficiency. The EU is in the process of designing a strategy to combat growing HGV CO2 emissions, the details of which will be published in 2013 after stakeholder consultation.

Until the finer details of these new carbon standards are published, it’s unclear how it will impact the HGV industry and whether it will affect HGV drivers individually at all. What it does make clear, however, is that the HGV industry is going strong. The very need for an emission reduction scheme is due to the fact that the freight transport services sector is growing exponentially, road haulage in particular. Anyone looking for HGV training will be encouraged that after completing their truck driver training they will be assured of instant, reliable, regular and well-paid work in a thriving industry.

To help ensure a first time pass in HGV training it’s essential to choose the right training school. HGV Express has become one of the leading truck driver training schools in the country thanks to first class training materials, highly experienced tutors, nationwide training centres, assistance with course finance and jobs on qualification.
