Support Anti-Fur Campaign By Buying Faux Fur Rugs
One thing that attracts us when we walk into most of the houses these days is the colorful rug. Whether in the main entrance or inside the living room, rugs can create an elegant look in any room and it makes the room very beautiful. Rugs are available in retail shops, shopping malls, carpet stores and also through online purchase. Sometimes you see a lovely animal skin rug in your friend’s house and long to own one, but dread the feeling of animals being killed to make the rugs. Well, now you can say goodbye to such cruelty to animals, but at the same time enjoy a rug which looks and feels like genuine animal skin but is not. This is called the faux fur rug. Faux fur is fake fur. Imitation products are in great demand because they look exactly like the real product, but are cheaper. While real fur rugs are quite expensive and can be afforded only by the wealthy people, the faux fur rugs which look like original fur, and very hard to tell the difference, are available at an affordable price. Apart from being cheaper than real fur, the faux fur rug, is durable and can be easily cleaned and maintained. The faux fur rug has become a very popular choice of rugs and it has found its way into various interior decoration magazines and captured the minds of many high-fashion designers.
The faux or fake fur was first introduced in 1929, but they looked liked real fake and were of very low quality. But as technology advanced, the quality of the faux fur improved, and nowadays it is very difficult to tell the difference between a fake and real fur. The faux fur rugs are made from synthetic materials and can be dyed in any color to look like real skins of animals like bear, cow, giraffe, zebra, leopard, tiger etc. The latex non-skidding back prevents the faux fur rug from skidding and thus it can be placed safely even in room of your children and aged parents. But with the discovery made by the Human Society, that faux fur from China was actually dog hair, it would be wise to check the base of the fur to see if it has skin backing or thread backing, and if it has skin backing, don’t buy it.
Animal furs have been used as a bed to sleep or as a means of protection against cold from ancient times. Till some years back, we have found that genuine animal fur rugs were a sign of status and wealth in many houses. But today, rug manufactures have started manufacturing faux fur rugs, instead of real fur rugs, due to extreme pressure from various organizations fighting for animal rights. In a protest in connection with an anti-fur campaign, in Belgrade, Europe, the activists painted in blood, lay on piles of fur, on the road. Various anti-fur campaigns are held all over the world to educate the people and bring an end to the suffering of fur bearing animals and influence them to make decisions against purchasing products that are made by killing animals, and due to this reason, the faux fur rug became very popular more an more people started opting for the faux fur rug, than real fur rug.
