What is waddling gait problem

Number of time we find people walking with limp in market, parks, malls and any where we go. This could be due to waddling gait it can happen due to obesity, knee arthritis or flat feet. This can also happen during later stage of pregnancy. As the feet are held apart and the person walks like duck. Therefore waddling gait is in fact a distinctive duck like walk which could also be found during childhood. Usually this problem starts at the age of 65 years and it increase day by day.

Therefore flat feet problem is minor problem therefore if it is not dealt with an appropriate age due to the lack of awareness. Therefore causative factors are heredity. It has been found that child have flat feet at the age of two years due to the presence of a pad of fat and incomplete union of bones.

As the age increases the fat pad decreases therefore about 90 percent of children develop a perfect arch by the age of ten years. Some time due to ignorance this problem happens as parents usually fail to detect flat feet problem. It has been found that flat feet in normal course of time may not cause any severe problem but it can lead to heel, knee and ankle pain on later stage.

Then comes arthritis therefore avoiding this pain which usually happens on the inner side of the knee joint due to this it transfer weight on the outer side of leg and foot causing a waddling gait. Due to walking for long period of time leads to lower leg bones becoming bow shaped which is not good.

It has been found that prevention and treatment of waddling gates depend on the cause. For reducing pain reduction in the body weight is very important. As if your weight will be normal you will not feel discomfort in cases of knee arthritis. On the hand using knee braces can help in providing relief and stability to the knee joint and pain.

If people have flat fleet therefore shoe modification can be done by inserting a medial arch. Therefore medial/lateral wedges raises can be given for lessening the waddling gait problem. As muscles and ligaments hold the knees together, it is critical that they are strong enough. Therefore stretching and strengthening of muscles of front and back of thigh are very important.
