Convert Ratio to Percentage
Hello people, in today’s session, we are going to learn how to convert ratio to percentage.
By converting ratios into percentages we can make our work easier to a great extent. Percentages are easier to understand and with percentages you can avoid the confusion which might come while solving problems based on ratios.
Now if you would like to Convert Ratio to Percentage then what you would have to do is just simply multiply the ratio with 100.
But first you should know how to express a ratio. The ratio is written as a:b or a/b or a to b.
If we take an example into consideration –
There are 9 geese and 16 ducks, then find the ratio.
In this example the ratio of ducks to geese would be 16/9 or 16 : 9 or 16 to 9. And the ratio of geese to ducks would be 9/16 or 9 : 16 or 9 to 16.
Now what if we have to find their percentage.
Now in this case the ratio could be found by simply multiplying the ratio with 100.
In the above example if we have to find the percentage of ducks to geese then it would be
16/9 * 100 = 177.7%.
For geese to ducks –
9/16 * 100 = 56.25%
Now you would have understood how to convert a given ratio into percentage.
So let’s solve some more examples to clarify the small doubts that you might still have in your minds.
Write each fraction as a percent: ½, 18/20 and 4/5?
We will do the same thing that we have done above to find the percentages of the following given ratios.
½ * 100 = 50%.
18/20 * 100 = 90%
4/5 * 100 = 80%.
Now let’s take a word problem on ratio and percentages.
Team A won 19 out of every 20 games played, and team B won 7 out of every 8 games played. Which team has a higher percentage of wins?
First we will calculate for team A. But first we need to find the ratio and it would be 19/20.
Now the percentage of wins would be 19/20 * 100 = 95%.
Now for team B, the ratio would be 7/8, and the percentage would be 7/8 * 100 = 87.5%
So from the above two results we can see that the percentage of wins by team A is higher than those by team B.
