Home Away From Home for the Next Big Gamre

A growing number of sports enthusiasts are upgrading their travel amenities in ways over and above the pre and postgame celebrations. More and more “road teams” are now looking for lodging outside of the traditional hotels and motels lining the interstates of every sports friendly city in the U.S. For these particular travelers their home away from home is, well, it’s a home.

Renting a house on the beach, or in the mountains, or in an exotic city in a foreign country is a common option for many vacationers. So why not the same when your travels take you out of town to your favorite sporting events? This is especially true when we’re talking about some of the bigger sports gala’s such as the Indy 500, The Kentucky Derby, the PGA Tour, the Final Four of March Madness, and of course the Super Bowl.

Sports fans with the means to choose a rented home over a hotel or motel room can easily turn their trip to the game into a much more comfortable, full-blown vacation complete with all of the amenities of your home. These rental options offer the sports event traveler the luxury of additional bedrooms, spacious living quarters, kitchen facilities, and if you so choose, ultra extravagances such as hot tubs, pools, game rooms, or almost any other extra you’d like to suit your particular tastes.

For many the option of renting a home versus a less costly hotel or motel room can be a budget buster, but there are many savings that go along with renting a home that should be factored into the equation before dismissing this option too quickly. Rental homes can accommodate more guests and therefore if you’re traveling with a group larger than yourself and your family, your overall rental expense can be shared with your fellow travelers. Another way to offset the higher cost of renting a home is in making good use of the kitchen facilities. Sure no one wants to go on vacation just to be stuck back in the kitchen, but some quick breakfasts, lunches and late-night snacks prepared and eaten at your rental home versus at a restaurant can leave a lot more cash available for hot dogs and cold beer.

Many businesses have long known about and taken advantage of the home rental option when entertaining their clients. Wall Street brokers, high profile law firms, and public relations firms, to name just a few, have been renting homes for sporting events to woo their clients for as long as the option has existed. One Wall St. executive at a large brokerage firm has been renting the same Augusta, Georgia home for The Masters Tournament for the last 10 years.

“As long as everyone gets along, and we’ve never had any problems considering that everyone is down there for a wonderful event, entirely paid for by our firm, renting a home is the best way to entertain a group of clients and to get to know everyone on a much more intimate level,” says one longtime Wall Street stockbroker. The positive response that this home rental devotee received from his experiences at the Masters has led his firm to rent houses at other big sporting events such as the Super Bowl as a way to entertain their clients.

While it might seem that the option of renting a nice big house close to the stadium is out of reach, unless of course you are Donald Trump or have an expense account that makes you think you are, many “commoners” are now looking into and opting for the comforts of home away from home when planning their trip to the next big game.
