Unexplored Wonders of India- North East Region

Most of the people who tour India, do not explore the north eastern part of the country. The different states in the region are:

Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh – Both these states lie in the Himalayan range and the people there are mainly the followers of Tibetan Buddhism. One can see beautiful lakes, rivers, mountains, lush green forests and monasteries which are hundreds of years old. In winter, snowfall is an added attraction in these states. Nagaland and Mizoram – Two distinct states with similarity in terms of food and religion. Nagaland is a hilly state with many lakes and rivers. The Nagas follow Animism and Christianity and they are formed of many different tribal groups. Each of the tribal groups has their own dialect and their traditions include different forms of music and dance. You can encounter them during your India travel and India tours.

Mizoram has the second largest literacy rate in India as more than 90 % of the population is literate. The district of Cachar in Southern Assam serves as a gateway to this state. There are many different tribes in the state and the largest among them are the Mizos.

Manipur and Tripura – Manipur is state which has a very diverse flora and fauna and many different ethnic groups live in this state. There are many hills and lakes that one can explore in this state.

Tripura is a very small state inhabited by different tribal groups. The palace of the Kings in Agartala, the capital city is worth visiting. Bengalis are the largest ethnic group in the state. Many tourists visit these two states during their India tour.

Meghalaya –It literally means the abode of clouds and is a beautiful state with majestic hills and friendly tribal population. The Scotland of the East, Shillong is the capital of the state and is a popular tourist destination. It is included in the itinerary of some travel India packages.
