How Aimpoint sights are different from traditional sights
Open iron sights, optical sights and aperture sights are usual sight choices for most hunting rifles. Optical sights are also known as telescopic sights. Many types of hunting rifles are supplied with open iron sights on them. Sights need to be purchased for and installed on some rifle types. Aimpoint Micro sights are good optical sights. Some models of Aimpoint Micro are open iron sights.
Open sights are comprised of a front sight as well as rear sight. The rear sight is an upright, mounted metallic blade cut into a ‘U’ or ‘V’ shape. Usually it is screwed onto the barrel of rifles or in a dovetail slot near the breech end facilitating the position of the notch in line with the user’s eye. The front sight comes in the shape of a vertical blade, screwed or dovetailed onto the barrel’s muzzle end. Aimpoint sights come with a detachable metal hood protecting them.
The visibility of an object is enhanced in dim light by a red, gold or ivory colored bead attached to the front sight. Most of the times, gold or yellow beads are preferred t colored plastic beads, as the formal is more durable than the latter. The tendency of traditional sight beads to deviate from the path of light is the only disadvantage of using them. However, there is no such problem with Aimpoint Micro sights.
The curved surface of traditional beads reflects light towards the direction of the sun. It results in a false aiming point. That is why flat-topped front sight having an undercut face and a non-reflective black surface are the most perfect and useful front sight type. Aimpoint Micro sights are this type of front sight compatible with most hunting rifles.
Factory produced rifles come with the most common open sights mounted on them. These sights are simple, flat-topped rear sights which are adjusted for elevation. Other common open rear sight types include express sight, buckhorn as well as semi-buckhorn sight. Aimpoint sights are a far cry from these ones.
There is no limit to variations. Some of the open rear sights can be adjusted by using screws for elevation as well as windage. The use of screw adjustable sights is advantageous in nature. Aimpoint Micro sights are adjustable through the use of screws. Flexible adjust ability of sight scopes or sighting systems is what most rifle users look for. In brief, Aimpoint sights are known for their advantageous usability.
