Pantech Slate Review
Newly released for AT&T customers, this offering from Pantech provides something that is hard to come by in a cell phone equipped with a QWERTY keyboard: a slim body. Yes, the Pantech Slate is easily one of the thinnest handheld devices today. The look and the feel is a lot like simple flip top phones, meaning the Slate will fit into a lapel pocket without creating an unsightly bulge.
Of course, the value of the Slate does not stop with the great look and the thin design. This is a full feature phone option. Equipped with Windows Mobile 6.1, the unit also boasts a video recorder, a video share feature, and a self-time on the 1/3 megapixel camera. There is also a handy zoom feature on the camera that will come in helpful at parties and sports events.
While the Slate does have a lot going for it, the unit lacks one of the features many people love to use: push-to-talk. However, the great reception on calls does make the lack of this and a few other features a little less of a problem. The talk time is not bad either, which also helps.
Many of the usual features are also present, such as an address book, Bluetooth connectivity, and email capability. All in all, what you get with the Slate far outweighs the few features that are lacking.
