More companies are adopting green policies
Even before the fairly recent discovery of global warming people were beginning to become more conscious of their impact on the environment. Particularly during the sixties, when flower power was a mainstream cultural phenomenon, each person was made well aware of the plight of the earth on a daily basis; even if the concerns of some were greatly exaggerated or badly informed, the intentions were good and the need was real.
First in line for the blame; arguably justifiably so; was big business, and businesses are still in the line of fire even to this day. The industrial sector is a massive polluter, with construction and industrial production trailing transport and aviation, and perhaps more unexpectedly, the meat and dairy industry, purely in terms of emissions.
It makes perfect sense that a company or organisation with a large number of employees working for numerous hours during the day will have more energy needs and more emissions than any individual person, anywhere in the world. However, an individual person is more than capable of looking after their own carbon footprint, as long as they are educated about the need to do so. A single household can reduce their emissions a great deal with very little effort involved. Many progressive companies are taking it upon themselves to ensure their employees know how to do this, and how to reduce their impact on the environment in general, and rightly are being applauded for this.
A large organisation is obviously going to find it more difficult to reduce its carbon footprint, as it has needs that people simply do not have in their leisure time. Whether this is getting large amounts of products onto the shelves of a supermarket or other logistical implications, or the energy costs required to keep a large facility running along with the waste it produces; even the amount of fuel it takes for staff members to commute to work in the morning adds to the total emissions. However, there are measures that can be taken to ensure that these costs to the environment are minimised. The energy management of a building is a large concern and is perhaps the easiest to fix, as there are so many costs that can be cut without detriment, and with other beneficial factors including providing a more pleasant working environment for staff. Transportation of goods can be more economical with a change of fuel policy, although numerous changes can be made to ensure it is a cheaper business for both you and the environment.
Carbon reduction services are sometimes offered by waste management companies, which can ensure your company is not doing unnecessary damage to the environment through emissions, energy wastage, and policies which are not green.
