People that have been close friends with somebody for many years are likely to be aware of how that person feels about many different subjects, including the tradition of celebrating the anniversary of one’s birth every year. Some of us love to be the centre of attention and look forward to receiving huge cards and lavish gifts whereas others would prefer to forget the whole day, or at least keep it very low key. It is important to bear in mind what kind of person a particular friend or relative is if you want to make the right choice.
It can take some effort to select a gift and card, so it would be a shame to waste your money on buying something that the recipient absolutely hates. Fortunately, there are a number of online retailers that sell a wide variety of cards, making it relatively easy for anybody to find something that their friends and family members will appreciate. Although there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to the type of birthday card that one buys for certain relatives and business colleagues, a little common sense will help you to avoid choosing something completely unsuitable.
A favourite aunt, for example, is unlikely to be impressed with something that contains a lewd message or any images that could cause offence to the more sensitive. When buying for business partners or work colleagues it is always wise to err on the side of caution unless you have a very close relationship. Jokes about somebody’s age, their hobbies or propensity for alcohol are all best avoided when purchasing a card for somebody in the office that you do not know very well. When it comes to your boss, your choice may depend on how long you have worked together and whether you enjoy a friendly relationship or not.
Some people find it difficult to find the time to look for cards, owing to their location or the fact that they have a very busy professional and social life. However, if you shop with one of the online suppliers mentioned earlier, there is no reason why you cannot find something suitable for all your friends and family members without having to spend hours driving from shop to shop.
