Auto Expo 2012
The Indian automobile industry has grown by leaps and bounds over the course of the last decade. Back then we had literally a handful of cars to choose from, just about one from each segment. If somebody desired to purchase a smaller car it would be the Maruti 800 without a doubt. For the consumer who desired more space and luxury it would be the Hindustan motors Contessa. Major large automobile manufacturers like Honda, Skoda, and Volkswagen weren’t even heard of in the Indian market. However, today it’s a different ballgame altogether, all the above global car manufacturers have a very strong presence in the Indian market and are in constant battle with one another to gain a strong hold in the Indian market. Leading car manufacturers like Chevrolet, Honda, Hyundai, and Mercedes, have their own manufacturing plants in India.
Even high end luxury car makers like Porche, Jaguar and Aston Martin have launched in India and opened their showrooms in the main metropolitan cities. This shows the transformation the Indian automotive industry has undergone. The best example of how the Indian car industry is booming is the Auto Expo taking place in Delhi at Pragati maidan. This is an extremely large scale event which has 1500 participants across 23 countries, all showcasing their respective vehicles and vehicle components. The auto expo is from the 5th-11th of January and is the largest automotive show to be held in India. Of the numerous companies showcasing their vehicles at the auto expo the large international companies include Audi, BMW, Harley Davidson, Mercedes Benz and Volkswagen. The local competitors who are also a part of the auto expo are Maruti Suzuki, Tata, Baja and Hero Motor Corp who are showcasing their motorcycles and even companies like Ashok Leyland and Volvo who are showcasing their buses. This shows what a varied treat the people are in for, at the venue. This auto expo saw the unveiling of several cars like the BMW M5, Mini launched their entire fleet which includes the Mini Cooper, Countryman and the Mini Convertible. Maruti in auto expo this year launched the much awaited MUV, Ertiga and Renault launched their premium hatchback called the Pulse
The auto expo this year is largely focusing on green or environment friendly technology as it the need of the hour with global warming getting worse and more of a threat by the day and considering that vehicle emissions are largely responsible for the dilapidation of our environment. With the entrants of manufacturers like Mini, BMW and Harley Davidson, it shows the potential the Indian automotive industry has.
