Cleanliness is Next to… Better Vision!
The number one reason as to why you need to clean your eyeglasses (billige briller is the term in Denmark) is because you should be able to eliminate the dirt without affecting your lenses. Since there are different types of glasses, there are also different ways of handling and caring for them. As soon as you purchase your eyeglasses you should already make it a point to ask how one can take care of them. Failing to do so can lead to eyestrain since your eyes will exert more effort into seeing through the blurry lens.
Many retail shops carry special lens wipes you can use to clean your glasses thoroughly and efficiently. These wipes are good for either plastic or glass lenses. However, since they have special instructions on how they should be used you should read them carefully before using them to clean your eyeglasses. This type of cleaning cloth is special because it cleans the surface without rubbing on them or scratching.
Ways to Clean Your Spectacles
Cleaning your eyeglasses starts by submerging it under warm or lukewarm water. The dirt is them removed by rubbing on the surface with a silk cloth. Rinse it again with warm water, then apply very mild detergent on the lens. Gently rub it to remove the residue and oils. Rinse it again using warm water then dry the glass using soft cotton cloth. Make sure it is no longer moist.
When you are cleaning the part where the nose pads are, using kids’ toothbrushes will be best. Rub gently and slowly so the bristles do not scratch the lens. If your glasses have special coating, it is best to ask the optometrist if there is a special cleaning process for it. When your glasses are not in use, make sure you keep it in a hard case specially meant to store and protect the glasses. This is especially important for those who have designer glasses as you cannot afford to wreck such an expensive pair. Your eyeglasses will stay clean and usable for as long as you know how to take care of them properly. If you do this, you will not need to change glasses for a very long time unless you have to have the lens refracted.
