How and When To Feed Your Puppy
When you are feeding a puppy, it is wise to remember that the very best source of nutrients and the most complete and effective form of nutrition will be from a mother’s milk. However, it is not always possible or practical to use a mother’s milk to feed puppies and, as such, it is wise to know how to get the best nutrition possible. After the first four weeks have passed, you will also need to know which pet foods are best to help sustain your growing pet.
Puppy feeding is more complicated than many people give it credence for. Not only do you need to have the right balanced nutrition for your pet, but you also need to make sure that you are feeding them the right amount at the right intervals.
First of all, be sure that the food that you choose is right for your dog. The food that you buy not only needs to be very tasty to ensure that your pet actually wishes to eat it, but it also needs to be healthy and balanced. Should you offer your puppy cheaper food, you will effectively be bringing it up on a diet of junk food.
Next, it is wise to make sure that you are feeding your puppy the right amount and at the right times. Feeding your pet too much could lead to it having weight problems (and in turn health problems) in later life, whilst feeding it too little will leave it with little energy and in turn see it looking and feeling less than vital.
Weigh your puppy regularly and adjust how much you feed them based on your vet’s recommendations. If they seem overly hungry and wish to eat everything in their path, try not to cave in. Also, limit treats and human food to exactly what they are: treats.
