The Rebirth of Wooden Gates for Your Home

Wooden gates have normally been used for more useful proposes than for decorative. The hard, robust and dependable properties of wood has meant that for hundreds of years whenever there is a need for a secure fence lumber has been the natural choice.

In recent years we have seen a growth of wrought iron gates, metal gates that provide all the security of wood with the additional benefit of not been susceptible to rot. While some in the industry see this as a bad shift and speak of the decline of wood as a material there are others who see this as a boom time, a time to reinvent the traditional wood gate.

As I mentioned, wood has always been the natural choice when it comes to security and providing a sturdy image and typically not much has been done in the way of design. Twenty years ago, cutting patterns and shapes into timber was a fairly intensive procedure and there was a lot of trial and error involved in getting the shape right.

Modern technology has made use of computer design to make more and more intricate patterns in the wood and using lasers this has cut the number of errors and has pretty much guaranteed a flawless finish every time.

One sector where we are seeing new growth in timberen gates is in the traditional garden gate design. During the mid eighties traditional lumberen gates were seen as quaint, dull and frankly unfashionable, however as with most trends the lumberen gate is back in fashion. With more and more people trying to achieve the cottage garden look, they are completing their properties with wooden gates and picket fences.

If you are looking for a great gate that will last a lifetime when treated right and that will set your property off with that traditional country look then you wouldn’t go far wrong than by choosing lumber as your choice material for your next set of gates.
