Time Management: A Requirement for both Parents and Children

Every time parents think they have got their time well planned, the kids manage to throw a spanner in between and upset all their carefully made plans. Sometime it becomes very difficult for the working moms specially to manage their office and their kids simultaneously. But in this superfast era, time management is very much needed. It is a skill that not only the parents, but even the children should learn in a very early age. When children learn to manage their time in an early age, they become more efficient. Regrettably, many parents do not take the time to teach their children the significance of the proper use of time.

In fact, a number of parents don’t even recognize the importance of time management themselves. In spite of the fact that parents are certain that they want to teach their child the importance of time management and ways that they can manage their time, parents may be unsure as to how they can go about doing so. Parents can set limits on the hours that children can use the computer, the types of games that they can play, the websites that they can visit, and the programs that they can run. Working mothers, they can do the major household work on weekends. They can seek for their husband’s help in some of the household work like vacuuming, dusting, taking out the trash. Cook simpler meals.  Mothers really need to create a time line of their day.

When the parents follow a particular time schedule, the children also get encouraged to follow a routine in their daily life. When we manage our time efficiently, we also get ample time to spend with our children. This time is very much needed in child’s development, as children also expect their parents to spend quality time with their children. Children should also be taught time management skills and parents can help them to cultivate this skill. When parents accomplish a particular work jointly with their kids, there should not be any distraction. Say for example, while teaching dance there shouldn’t be the intervention of television noises. This may distract the child. Preparing a daily “to do list” is an effective way of teaching how to manage the time.

The most important works need to be placed at the top of this list. Time management doesn’t mean that children should not be provided the time for when they can play or act freely. There should be enough time for children so that they can do whatever they want to do freely. Parents should be a role model to their children. As children learn by observing others, so it’s very useful in teaching them this skill. It is very common to find families with a T.V. set in every room of the house. There really is no need to have television sets in the bedrooms or bathrooms or even the kitchen. The more television sets in the house, the harder it will be to limit or monitor how much time children spend watching television and this will again result in the wastage of time.
