The Influence of the Modified Marriage Law on Standards of an Ideal Marriage
On 12th august 2011, the modified marriage law comes out and shocks people a lot, for it changes traditional Chinese view of marriage.
I got a joke in my memory when I see the Modified Marriage Law. A rich man wanted to buy his wife a gift for birthday, asking “you want a ship or a Helicopter?” The wife answered “I want nothing but divorce”.
Come back to the point, firstly I think the modified marriage law is positive to many girls’ view of love. Before it comes out, there are so many girls wanting to marry a rich man. They don’t care who they marry, and the only thing they care is money. But now is different, they can’t get anything from him.
Second, the biggest crush to the standards of an ideal marriage. In china, almost every couple’s first house is paid by husband, before it comes out; the couple owns the house together. However, if wife wants to own it now, she has to make a premarital agreement of the house. It’s a very difficult step for couples, because they are discussing the distribution of divorcing. When love meets money , whatever they choose will change their rest of life .
Last but not least, the Modified Marriage Law overthrows most of the old people’s opinion. “It’s better for a girl to marry a good man than get a well paid job”. It encourages women to create wealth by hand, not to depend on husband too much.
As far as I am concerned, it’s not the change of Marriage Law; it’s society indeed. People who are getting married now pay more attention to the benefit of this marriage but not love. However, love is basic of marriage, which is most necessary thing in China.
