The town is a part of Malaga province and it is administered by the local municipality. As a matter of fact, the history of the town traces to the Bronze Age. It was also under the occupation of Romans and Moors. Blessed with beautiful coastline and some of the historical buildings, the place is now a popular tourist spot also. The Buddhist temple:
It was inaugurated in the year 2004. A 33 meter high stupa of Buddha has been installed here. This temple receives large number of visitors throughout the year. The temple complex contains a big meditation hall, a museum where there is a collection of historic paintings from some of the renowned artists on the life history of Buddha etc. It also contains some of the rare Himalayan paintings.
The beach:
The eight kilometer long beach is another attraction for the tourists. The beach is known for its beauty and it has earned the coveted ‘blue flag’ award for flawless maintenance. Water sports facilities, walking path, fishing area, boating are some of the other features of this beach. It is also rich in flora and fauna. Along the beach there are many hotels where the tourists can enjoy the delicious dishes. There is a place reserved for swimming and playing area for children.
Bil Bil castle:
This is considered to be the landmark building of Benalmadena located to the western side of Marina. This building built in traditional Arabaic Architecture with red colored painting is located in the midst of beautiful environment and natural beauty. Presently it is used for holding public concerts, exhibitions etc.
Paloma Park:
This is one of the most popular and biggest parks of Spain and the uniqueness of this park is that it is located very near to the sea. The park is full of rare species of birds most of which are migratory in nature. There is a beautiful cactus garden and a pond full of rare species of fishes and also swans, ducks etc. The visitor can feed the birds and fishes. There is a popular Selwo Marina Dohpin where one can enjoy the dolphin show which is held every day.
Apart from these, there are fun sail (sailing trip), mini golf centre, trips for fishing, falconry display which is held every day, cable car ride which are all available for the amusement for the tourists in location villas.
