Carl Edwards wins Daytona 500 pole position

Danica Patrick, making her first-ever qualifying lap in a Cup event, was 29th (191.738 mph) out of 49 cars, though she’s already locked into the race by virtue of a deal that got her No. 10 Chevrolet the owners points accrued in 2011 by the No. 36 Chevy of Tommy Baldwin Racing .
