All you need to know about Curtains
Curtains have long been a staple inside a home, apartment, or office to either block out the sun or passers-by on the street, while also enhancing the d?cor of a room from inside the home or business. They are one of the easiest and simplest of additions to add to any window and come in several different shapes and sizes, as well as colours so that customization can be done to match the d?cor.
What are Curtains?
Curtains are a type of window dressing that allows for cloth material to be hung from a pole that is placed within a window sill. They are generally used to help block out the sun during warmer months, while sometimes helping to keep the heat in during the winter months. There is also the added benefit of allowing for privacy, by blocking the view from outsiders who may be able to look inside a window to say a bedroom or bathroom.
Where Can I Find Curtains?
This truly depends on where you are. In many cases, when a person moves into a home or apartment, there may already be curtains that are attached to the poles within a window sill. Also, depending on whether you are renting or have bought the residence, you may not have the ability to change the ones you do not like.
If presented with bare windows, this can mean that you are able to purchase your own curtains and pole which they will hang on. In this case, you can go out and purchase them from a local or online home improvement store and even some retail stores. They come in a variety of sizes and shapes, which can allow to customise the size of the curtains to fit the window.
There are also several different colours and designs that can be chosen, usually to go off the base colours within a home of either the walls themselves or that of the furnishings. Colours can range from plain white to cream to that of red, beige, blue, green, and purple; patterns that curtains come in also vary, with that of plaids, single lines, abstracts, contemporaries and more.
How to Put Up Curtains
They are actually very easy to put up, as long as you have patience. Upon opening the package, unroll the curtains and with the top in your hand, slowly begin to move the pole thought the openings. Sometimes the poles will have removable ends that can make it easier to attach the curtains.
Some may also reside on hooks rather than having to be placed directly on the pole. This is usually the case when dealing with shower curtains, though some window curtains are like this as well. Once on the pole, place the pole back in the window; this is the actual tricky part, as the
pole is now much heavier than the curtains are on the pole. There is also the consideration that the pole will need to be angled in order to get back within the window sill.
This will depend on the actual pole itself, however in some cases it may be a good idea to have a friend or family member on hand in order to give some extra help.
