A brand new car that won’t start
I have recently had a new car awarded to me at work. I was quite happy with my old one as it was economical and fully functional, but they think by giving me a brand new car, I will feel more valued and possibly get around my sales pitch far quicker. I have everything I need and want in my old car, yes it has a couple of battle scars from accidents in the car park and in rush hour traffic, but they do not alter its ability to be used successfully on a daily basis.
I have been told my new car will be delivered to me on the Monday morning coming, so during the weekend I have to empty out my stock and broachers ready to make way for my new car. I also have all my phone chargers and adapters to charge up my laptop whilst I travel and I must not forget my internet dongle that is fixed into place on the top of the dash board by Velcro.
So Monday morning came and the transport guy asked me to join him in the car park to have an orientation of my new car. I was a little shocked to see such a posh and sporty car sitting waiting for me. May be it was not such a bad thing after all. Phil from the transport office showed me everything down to the bonnet pull and the screen wash receptacle. I was ready for the first test drive that had to be done with Phil in attendance, just so he can report I am able to drive the car without any problems and I know where all the controls are, he just kept apologizing all the way around the set route, as it was all down to health and safety.
Once I had pleased Phil with my driving skills and I had dumped him back in the car park, I drove home to collect my stock and other stuff I needed for my afternoon appointments. I noticed the fuel was near empty so I used my company fuel card to fill up whilst I enjoyed a quick double espresso. I had just left the petrol station when the car stopped and won’t start (in Denmark we call that Din bil vil ikke starte). I tried everything but nothing. I called the number on the sun visor, and waited for the main dealer to come to my assistance. I rang just about anyone I could, to tell them about my brand new car that won’t start.
The guy arrived and I explained what had happened and he asked to see my fuel receipt! He shook his head and informed me the reason my car won’t start is down to me having put in petrol and it is a diesel. One thing Phil forgot to mention but I am quite sure he will deny. I had to be towed (or Billig autobugsering as the term is in Denmark) in and the entire fuel system drained, cleaned and re fueled with the correct fuel “diesel”. At least I know why my car won’t start, one that will amuse the office for a while to come I am sure.
