Fast Pass MCSE Exams DNS Server Requirements and Placement in the enterprise
Microsoft Virtual PC 2004 and 2007 These are two versions of one piece of software designed to allow machines to install multiple different operating systems on one worksta- tion. It is available as a free download, and in the enterprise it is rarely used, except on an individual user level.
As I said earlier in this chapter, Microsoft SoftGrid is a MCSA Certification complex and highly scalable appli- cation virtualization platform that uses SQL Server and Active Directory for application availability. Within Active Directory, SoftGrid relies upon three different user groups:
SoftGrid browsers This is a read-only account type that is designed to allow users to browse SoftGrid applications to see what is available.
SoftGrid administrators SoftGrid administrators are granted access to the SoftGrid Manage-ment Console, as well as the SoftGrid Management Web Services tool. Administrators can also add, delete, and remove accounts within SoftGrid and manage application-based software.
SoftGrid users SoftGrid user accounts are used to access available SoftGrid applications throughout the infrastructure. Once the user accounts have been created in Active Directory and assigned their various roles, SoftGrid can deploy applications through SoftGrid Sequencer. The exact process is beyond the scope of this book, but it is very important for this exam that you be familiar with the technology and capabilities of the sequencer.
The inherent dif?culty with virtualization isn?t necessarily the MCITP Server Administrator virtualization itself. In fact, that?s almost easy. The dif?cult part of virtualization is working within an organization to derive a deployment method that will scale with an organization, no matter how much it may grow or reduce in size as the business ebbs and ?ows with its success or reduction. The key to this is to remember that no single virtualization strategy will work through- out the entire enterprise. At the most granular level, individual workstations may have to be addressed for individual purposes. At the highest level, deployment methods such as Micro- soft SoftGrid can be used to design the overall architecture of your organization.
