Proper Maintenance for Leather Belts
Leather belts evolved through the long-term life practice of northern minority groups of China in ancient times. It was not only used to bind clothes, but also to hang some small objects such as a short sword for hunting or a water jug. But in today’s life, a leather belt has become more of a fashion belt, which can be seen on various fashion shows and has almost become an inevitable element in fashion designing.
Compared with cloth belts, leather belts have the advantages of being more formal, durable and elegant. They are the perfect match for suit pants. There are many screen stereotypes with the image of a man in suit with leather belt, among which you can easily speak out the names like James Bond of the 007 Series, Clark Kent of Superman, etc. But since the leather material will easily get musty when it is wet, it can only be regarded as relatively durable.
In order to counter such a weakness and keep the leather belt in good repair, the following tips for maintenance are strongly recommended. Firstly, do not expose it in the sun constantly or soak it in water or other liquids. Long time exposure in sun will make it so dry that it might wrinkle, and too much humidity will make it musty. Secondly, oil it regularly. The proper way to do this is to apply the oil for maintenance to a piece of clean cotton cloth, and then wipe the surface of the belt with it equably. Applying oil directly to the belt might damage it. Thirdly, and most importantly, use the belt with good care. Do not fasten it too tight when wearing it. And be careful not to scratch it with hard articles, smear it with filth or damp it with water.
With special care, leather belts can contribute to your neatness, elegancy, formality and beauty in clothing for longer time.
