This automatic plugin installer works well for almost everyone. Manual installation is also easy and it takes only a few minutes.
1. Download the plugin from the above said link, unpack it and then upload the folder ‘special-recent-posts‘ to your wp-content/plugins directory.
2. Activation of the plugin can be done through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress.
3. To configure the basic options, Go to Settings -> Special Recent Posts.
4. Drag the Special Recent Posts widget from the widgets panel onto one of your sidebars and then the specific settings can be configured.
5. You have completed the installation. Enjoy.
After the installation, an issue may arise, i.e., the plugin works, but the thumbnails may not be seen. For these check the following.
1. Using the PHP GD libraries, the thumbnails are rendered and so these should be enabled on your server. You have to check whether they are installed properly by doing a phpinfo() on your host. You can also contact your hosting support to enable them.
2. Another problem might be that you’re hosting the plugin on a MS Windows based machine, which changes the encoding data inside the files and could lead to several malfunctions. It is better to host this plugin on a Unix/Linux based environment.
3. Generating Thumbnail from External images are not allowed. If you are trying to generate a thumbnail from an image hosted on a different domain, it won’t work.
Requirements
Special Recent Posts plugin needs the following settings to work:
1. PHP version 5+
2. GD libraries installed and it should be enabled on your server.
