The enchanting place of Valley of flowers
It is an outstandingly beautiful meadow which is located at an altitude of eleven thousand feet. It is situated very conveniently along the river Pushpavati which is a tributary of Alaknanda. This place was discovered by Frank Smythe in 1931 on his way back from a successful expedition to mount Karnet. The locals of course knew of its existence and later in 1982 it was declared a national park. The valley is home to many rare species of flora which makes it a much sought after place by the botanists. And these flowers are seen at their best during the months of August and September which makes the place a riot of colours. The natural plantation surrounded by the snow clad great Himalayas not only makes it a feast for the botanist but also for the tourists as well.
After the monsoons the valley is covered with a carpet of colourful flowers which makes an amazing sight. The scope for trekking in this region in huge.The travellers can opt for short walks as well as arduous trek along the rugged path. The legend associated with the valley also helps in attracting tourists from as parts of India. This place is rumoured to have been the famous area from where Hanuman collected the life giving Sanjeevani herb to revive Lord Laxman, who was the younger brother of Lord Rama.

The journey generally starts from Haridwar and Rishikesh which are the gateway to the pilgrimage spots of Uttaranchal. From Haridwar the journey takes you to Joshimath another religious centre from where the holy Ganges starts on your journey. After that you can trek to Valley of Flowers from Ghangaria and enjoy the valley’s enchanting sight. The trek from Ghangaria to Hemkund is a steep climb but the experience is truly worth the toil. The area has got a late surrounded by snow clapped mountains which makes the place serene and enchanting.
