Curvy Fashions From London Fashion Week 2012
This year’s London Fashion Week went down a storm and top designers once again shook the world of fashion with their new ideas as models took to the catwalks parading their work. Recent research showed that one in five Britons now wear plus size clothing, so were there any plus size dresses in sight on the catwalks?
In recent years plus size fashions have had much greater attention with curvy models taking to the catwalk; this is perhaps thanks to the likes of Gok Wan’s TV shows and designer Mark Fast who in 2010 made the inspired and yet controversial decision to use size 14 models at London Fashion Week – and he returned again this year. So is there a sign of perhaps a wider shift in fashion towards greater acceptance of feminine curvaceous looks? Maybe so as more recently top magazines Elle and the French Cosmopolitan have both featured plus size models on their front covers in the forms of Tara Lynn and Laura Catterall.
Taking notes on the London Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2012 catwalks were Style369 checking out the best upcoming fashion trends for 2012 and here we take a look at some of their suggestions for 2012.
Pretty in Blue
Blue – in all its shades was all over London Fashion Week Autumn/Winter catwalks this year – especially present in Mark Fast’s knitted collection entitled ‘Questions in a World of Blue’. This sophisticated show was tailored for the woman who wants to look effortlessly stylish. Perhaps taking some inspiration from Fast’s theme, Style369’s suggestions for Autumn/Winter 2012 include a range of plus size tops in blue such as the mid-blue denim jacket – classic yet casual for any occasion and the gorgeous Sienna Couture Midnight Navy plus size tunic. If you are considering evening dresses – check out the Lovedrobe Blue Drape Dress which looks fabulously elegant and perfect for any occasion.
Clashing Print Fashion
Unafraid to mix things a bit, designers Clements and Ribeiro’s offering was an awe-inspiring collection, which predominantly featured a mash-up of clashing prints inspired from many different genres from punk, folk to more ladylike looks. Meanwhile Mary Katrantzou’s collection offered captivating pieces with both warrior-like, Elizabethan with a Japanese twist – her trademark being quite amazing prints from garden maze scenes to baroque curlicues. Style369’s suggestions for the A/W 2012 echo this clashing print look with elegant plus size evening dresses such as the Samya Beige Print Dress which has distinct ethnic overtones, and the Lovedrobe Heart Print Tunic Dress ideal for wearing with black tights and heels or with some black skinny jeans and pumps.
Buttoned-up Tailored-Look
Prominent looks to come out of the show include the trend from designers for statement collars and buttoned-up shirts – right to the top! Army-chic is back with big brass buttons – designers interpreting the style in tailored coats to creative variations of dresses in green with a military twist.
Inspired from men — buttoning up your plus size blouses gives you a good neckline to work with and sits well with round neck pullovers – but you could add some elegant earrings for a softer feminine look.
From maxi dresses, button-up blouses to blue plus size trousers , Style369 got it covered and have some elegant and practical suggestions inspired from the top trends of London Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2012 Catwalks.
