Canadian Citizenship Introduces New Documentation
CIC (Canadian Immigration and Citizenship) has now started a regulation to issue recently introduced citizenship documents for the new Canadian citizens. This directive has been initiated from 1st February 2012, in order to decrease the fraudulent activities pertaining to citizenship. Till now, CIC was issuing wallet-sized plastic citizenship permit; but now a letter-sized paper document will be issued to the new citizens that will serve the purpose of citizenship certificate. Even a new e-validation system has also been set up to verify the details of this paper document.
As per the info given by CIC, the new document will contain a unique ID of the citizen along with the persona details and other information of the concerned citizen. These details may include name of the holder, birth date and gender etc. The information contained in the citizenship document can be used by other government departments to verify the holder’s status in the country through electronic verification system.
This citizenship document of certificate will be used as a legal status of the holder, not as any identity proof or a travelling document such as passport etc., as it will not contain an image of the holder. CIC had also announced that previously issued documents ie. Before 1st February 2012 can still be used and there is no need to replace them with the new certificate.
