Hair loss in female and the possible reasons behind it

Hair loss in female is more often treated as a panic alarm than a physical problem. Women do take good care of their crowning glory as hair forms an essential part in their social presence and personal existence.

There are various stages in a woman’s life when the hair loss occurs normally due some hormonal imbalance. Almost 20% of women experience hair loss at a certain point of their lives. The main two female hormones, namely Estrogen and Testosterone balance the well being of women health. However, the balance between these two hormones gets disturbed when some natural phenomenon occurs within a woman’s body.

Various incidents triggering hair loss

Hair loss starts in puberty, when some normal hormonal changes occur in a woman’s body as she becomes an adult. It reduces invariably as time proceeds.

Taking contraceptive pill regularly also affects the hormonal balance of a woman, and it often results to severe hair loss. Sometime even stopping a pill might cause the same problem. Another particular time when most of the women face hair loss problem is during pregnancy.

Menopause is one such stage when a woman suffers from dramatic hair loss. Again we can blame it on hormones to cause this problem, though it can be treated by bringing changes in one’s lifestyle and initiating a hormone replacement therapy.

If you have genetic history of hair loss, that is, if both or any of your parents have been victims of hair loss or baldness, there are hardly chances that you might escape this problem in your lifetime.

Other than these reasons, there are a few odd habits and lifestyle hazards which might create hair loss, like presence of harmful chemicals in hair products, certain hair styling and dying in color, not cleaning hair and scalp regularly, taking improper and irregular diet, stressful and hectic schedule and non sufficient sleep might cause damage to health and hair loss subsequently.

Types of hair loss in women

Hair loss follows a separate pattern in women than in men. In men, it is more likely to be the frontal-temporal baldness, while in women the hair of temple thins first. This thinning of hair in temple causes the parting of hair to broaden. Or else it could result in a wide forehead, which is commonly called “widow’s peak”.

If the hair loss creates bald patches in a particular place, this can be safely treated as alopecia areata, which is a common skin problem and can be cured completely with medication.
