A car that has a puncture but no jack or wheel brace
I had purchased a car from Ebay. It was on a seven day auction and had many bidders, but only in increments of ten pounds or so. When I looked at the bidding list it seems like these guys were after an even bigger bargain than me, if that was possible. I decided early on not to show my interest, but just watch for the time being. When the time remaining was as low as thirty seconds I placed a bid of what I was prepared to pay. As I placed the bid with only ten seconds left, I was unsure if it had time to register but it did and I won the car.
I contacted the guy and agreed to collect it the very next day. It is a good hundred miles away from my home, so I decided to jump on the train and the guy will collect me from the train station. I know purchasing a car over the internet is a dodgy one, but it is the only way you can get such a cheap bargain. The guy selling the car has a 100% positive track record and his description was very through and detailed, along with so many pictures, after all what can you expect from a ten year old car for the low price I have paid.
I was a little late and the guy was waiting in the car in the parking area. It was in better condition than the pictures showed, so I was very happy with this. He offered for me to drive and I accepted. It drove even better than I expected also, so I was very encouraged by what I had seen and experienced by the time we reached his house, I was sure it was a good deal and I paid the money with a big hidden grin. The poor guy was literally giving the car away.
I was settled in to the drive home along the M11 when I noticed the steering wheel started to wobble and then I realized I had a puncture (we Danes call it Punktering af dine bildæk). I pulled over and started to retrieve the necessary tools from the boot. It soon became apparent the spare was ok but I had no jack or wheel brace. I was stuck on the motorway with no way of changing my spare for the puncture. I decided to call and ask the guy if he had any idea where the much needed tools are.
He apologized profusely, as he had forgotten to put them back in the boot when he cleaned it out, he confirmed he had them and would bring them to me immediately. Just a tad over thirty minutes he pulled up behind me, he walked towards me with the jack and wheel brace in his hands. He helped me change the punctured tire and upon inspection it appeared I had collected a small piece of metal of the road and it had gone through the side wall of the tire. I just have to hope I do not experience a second puncture during the remainder of my journey, because if I do, I’d have to call roadside assistance (that’s Få hurtig auto hjælp in Danish) to help me with my problems.
