Apples Everywhere
My friends are split in to several teams as far as Apple is concerned. Which is not surprising. One of the most powerful and successful brands in the world, one that gets so much attention and is present in the media on a 24/7 basis is bound to have people talking almost all the time and joining either one camp of opinions or the other. And even if they say they don’t really have an opinion, that’s impossible, because Apple is everywhere and if you see it, it stirs something within you. Besides, it’s totally fashionable and no one can deny their stuff looks gorgeous! Yes, I’m that shallow. And they really are popular, just check out these iphone statistics.
Group one among my Apple observers says they “don’t support Apple.” As far as I get it with my limited technical knowledge and woeful undereducation on all things computer related, they either support Windows or they are dissatisfied with Apple because they think the brand is over-marketed. They think it’s getting too much attention and they don’t want to join “the mass tide.” In response to my feeble attempts at noting the supposed technological superiority of Apple’s products they frown, tut or embark on a long tirade concerning the opposite of what I say (mainly just to provoke them a bit). They seem to be generally dissatisfied with the interface on Macs, for example, and are die-hard PC supporters. A few minutes with a Mac and they are already yelling, “I hate you.”
The second group is in love. They are in love with Apple. You only have to mention the brand and they get starry-eyed like they have just seen the most beautiful thing in their lives. They start talking in breathless, hushed voices, in a reverential tone, and woe betide you if you interrupt them while they are talking. But regardless of whether you want them to or not, they will haul out their Mac and make you sit with them while they show you all its distinguishing features. They will make you travel all over the screen with them and open every single folder and feature. They will show you the different ways to manage files until your head feels like it will explode from a sheer overload of information. They will show you how great pictures look and generally find all sorts of arguments for just why a Mac is better than a PC. They will react to the word “Widows” with just as much disgust as the group described above.
Then there are the iphone fans. Where do I start? I kind of get that one, though, and I think I’m leaning towards joining that camp. For one thing, they look fabulous and they fit really easily in to your evening bag. For another, statistics about apple and the iphone are extremely convincing in showing that Apple is on a fast course to stratospheric success. And soon stratospheric might be too mild a world to describe what’s going on.
So I’m thinking which camp to join. But maybe I can just be open to both? Or if my wallet currently allows me to invest in some good Apple products, maybe I will. In any case, it’s one of the most successful stories of all time, how Apple grew and wowed the whole world. So regardless of how you feel about it, it’s definitely worth paying attention to and it’s impossible NOT to pay attention to it. So whether you’re a fan or not, one thing is true: you’re thinking about Apple!
