Rhytidectomy Is A Facelift Procedure in Plastic Surgery

Rhytidectomy is a technical term for a surgical method used to lessen facial wrinkles, eradicate tattletale signs of aging, and improve the overall appearance of the face and jaw region. It is more commonly known as face lift and the procedure involves removing excess skin from the cheek, chin and the neck vicinity and smoothening out what is left behind, and at the same time tightening the tissue below.
There are various ways of performing a Rhytidectomy.
1. If you opt for the traditional method an incision will be made that will follow the hairline; beginning at the temple and going down ,around as it curves behind the ears, beneath and back up to the other ear, bending around and returning into the hair. If the jaw is a sagging one then the jaw line cut will go under the chin to rectify this issue. After completing the incision, the skin is lifted, pulled back and the excess skin that overlaps will now be trimmed away. Then excess fat will be isolated and removed, the muscle tissues will then be tightened and the skin is re-stitched where the cut was originally made. In special cases this will be achieved with the use of stitches or metal clips. A hospital stay for a minimum of one day is required in a traditional method.
2. Another method that you can opt for is the “Keyhole surgery “ in which smaller slit are made in the skin, and then an operating instrument called endoscope (a bendable small tube with a light and camera on the end) is inserted through this cut. The surgeon views the operation with the help of the camera which is displayed on a monitor. This is a much simpler method and results into smaller scars than those induced by traditional method.
3. There is one more option of Rhytidectomy which is a popular surgical method known as . “Minimal Access Cranial Suspension” (MACS); it involves much smaller incisions than the traditional surgical method. In this procedure slits are made in the temple and in the front part of the ears which is followed by permanent re-stitching.
4. The other common procedures used for facelift are forehead lift, neck lift, chemical peeling, dermal filler which are necessary to achieve the best results.

A facelift unquestionably improves your looks and boosts your self-confidence, but is not meant for every one .It gives great result only on a skin that is still supple and is in good health. Almost similar result may be obtained in a less invasive way, by using chemical peel. Some people often combine face lift with forehead lift or neck lift. People who are enlightened about the overall side effects of a facelift are the ones to appreciate the result of it .Even though the surgery is cosmetic but it is important to have a good health and a strong mind before the surgery. A certain preparation regime should start weeks before procedure; several precautions should be taken like quitting smoking, discontinuation of medicines and implementation of pr-surgery directives. Following the surgery, it is better to know what to expect there after, including the length of recovering time, and other details of facelift recovery.
