From being 20 Weeks Pregnant to being 23 Weeks Pregnant
When you are 20 weeks pregnant your baby weighs close to 11 ounces and its permanent second teeth have begun to form behind its milk teeth. The Vernix is still in the stages of production and secreted on the skin like an expensive body cream. The baby by now begins to produce meconium, that tarry black substance which will eventually become the first bowel movement after birth.
Meconium happens to be a harmless mixture of amniotic fluid, digestive secretions and dead skin cells accumulating in your baby’s bowels. This eventually gets excreted in its first nappy. Your baby by now has begun to swallow a lot which is good news for its digestive system. Its genitals have also fully formed.
At 20 weeks pregnant the mother-to-be is almost halfway through her pregnancy, the confirmation of which comes from the fact that the top of her uterus is at par with her navel. The lady by now must have gained at least ten pounds which is a couple of pounds lesser at 21 weeks pregnant and around 7-8 pounds lesser at 23 weeks pregnant which is said to be the later middle stages.
At 21 weeks pregnant the baby is the size of a large banana. Those acrobatics you often felt inside your stomach which you were a little uncertain of by now confirm themselves as kicks and thumps which you are going to experience even more. The facial features have started to become more recognizable as the eyebrows and eyelids are present. If it’s a baby girl for you then her vagina is forming by now.
There are several ounces of amniotic fluid which by now are being pumped into your baby’ mouth and the taste buds have also begun to function by now. The fluid will provide hydration and nutrition and the action of swallowing is going to augur very well. The mother at 21 weeks pregnant may not feel that comfortable as there are always intermittent inconveniences cropping up every now and then.
The lady may notice spider veins around her ankles and also on her face. These are fine red vessels near the skin’s surface resembling fine tree branches. They should not be a cause for worry as they disappear immediately soon after the baby’s birth.
The 23rd week brings with it plenty of changes again. At 23 weeks pregnant the weight of the baby gets doubled. The fat layers are being laid down beneath the skin and the muscles also begin developing. There are certain movements visible under the skin as your baby begins to squirm. The mother should be prepared to feel her baby dance within if she comes across good music.
As far as the mother goes, she should be ready for plenty of water excretion in the form of urine and sweat. It is also advised that she avoid standing or sitting in the same position for a very long period of time.
