The Best In Urban Transportation on Wheels
Citi dwellers love to talk about all of the unique advantages that come with living in one of America’s big urban centers. From easy access to all things cultural and culinary to being nearby the places where they work, urbanites have a lot going for them. On the other hand, getting around town – comfortably that is, isn’t always as easy as it may appear. Sure most cities are crisscrossed with subways, trains, and bus lines that can get you from one end of town to the other anytime day or night, and generally for a relatively modest fee. However, getting to and from these stations can be quite a long walk and sometimes you just don’t feel like snuggling-in with the hordes that jam into train cars and buses all day. For these urban dwellers the mode of transportation that they are turning to more and more is the folding bicycle.
Bikes in urban areas are nothing new. Picture downtown Beijing and I’m sure that one of the first images that comes to mind is hundreds and thousands of Chinese people on bikes tooling around the city. The same holds true to a greater or lesser extent for most cities around the world. However, a folding bike offers the urban peddler options that cannot be found in a traditional bike.
First, the unique design that allows the bike to be easily folded into a convenient size and shape that is effortlessly totted about should not be dismissed without further examination of the benefits from this feature.
For one thing, most if not all city residents live in multi-family apartments, high rise condos, or multi-family houses, in which space is at a premium. A folding bike allows the owner to quickly and easily transform their full-sized, fully functional, two-wheeled transportation into a size that is easily carried and stored no matter how pressed you are for space. This allows the apartment owner to fold their bike when using the elevator in the building as well as giving the owner the option of storing the bike safely in the apartment, as opposed to having it locked-up in some community room where it could be stolen or vandalized.
The other benefit of the folding bike, especially for those people living in the city, is the ease with which the folded bike is transported versus a bike with a traditional frame construction. For the person living in the city that likes to get away from the mind-numbing pace and frenetic activity that is city living on the weekends, his or her folded bike goes from apartment, to elevator, to truck of almost any vehicle with no more effort than it takes to carry a loaded cooler. And while a bike rack can offer some of the same advantages of transporting your wheels to the country or seashore for a ride in the fresh air, they are not nearly as convenient, especially for the person living in a city. A bike rack needs to be attached to the bumper of a car or truck just like a trailer hitch, and when they are attached, they can make parking in the city an even more dreadful and frustrating task than it already is. And in putting your bike on the back of your car it is exposed to the elements as well as those that might like to make your bike their bike.
City living is indeed a unique experience that can be enriching as well as challenging. Getting around town with a bike has always been one of the best ways to see and enjoy all that the city has to offer as well as to get to and from work. And while a traditional bike can do the trick, it can only do some of the tricks required for comfortably and conveniently biking around town. For the best experience in urban cycling, more and more city dwellers are turning to the many advantages that can only be found in the incredible folding bicycle.
